About Camp Nuo
A community-led, volunteer-run organization registered in Mwiki, Kasarani Constituency, Nairobi County — working alongside residents rather than for them.
Our story
Camp Nuo Community Based Organization began as an informal group of Mwiki neighbours who ran a school-holiday camp for children with nowhere structured to go during long breaks. What started as a few volunteers borrowing a church hall grew, over time, into a wider effort covering youth mentorship, environmental clean-ups, food security and health outreach.
On 24 November 2020, Camp Nuo was formally registered as a Community Based Organization by the Department of Social Development under the State Department for Social Protection, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, under registration number KAS/CBO/5/4/2020/752. The certificate was issued by the Kasarani Sub-County Social Development Office on 15 December 2020.
Since registration, we have continued to operate on the same principle that started us: needs are identified by the community itself, at village barazas and through our volunteer network, and every program is designed with residents, local schools, health volunteers, chiefs and the Sub-County social development office — not around them.
Our mission
To strengthen the wellbeing, safety and self-reliance of families in Mwiki, Kasarani, through community-led programs in youth development, environmental stewardship, food security, health and education.
Our vision
A Mwiki where every household has access to basic needs, every child has a safe place to grow, and the environment residents share is one they are proud to protect — in step with the goals of Kenya Vision 2030.
