Holiday Camp Returns to Full Capacity Post-Pandemic
After scaled-back COVID-era sessions, our December camp welcomed a full group of 45 children again.
The Details
After several years of reduced-capacity, staggered sessions due to COVID-19 precautions, Camp Nuo's December holiday camp welcomed a full group of 45 children again, run over two weeks with the usual mix of mentorship, sports and creative activities.
It marked a return to the camp's original scale for the first time since 2020, and volunteers who had been present at both the pre-pandemic and pandemic-era camps described the difference in energy as immediately noticeable.
The camp's return to full capacity set the stage for the even larger camps that followed in 2025 and 2026, as word spread and enrolment demand grew each holiday.
"Camp gave my son something to look forward to every holiday instead of idle days on the estate." — A parent, Mwiki
Why It Matters
Unsupervised school holidays are consistently flagged by Mwiki parents and teachers as a period of higher risk for idleness, petty crime exposure and falling behind academically. Structured mentorship during these windows, backed by ongoing check-ins through the term, is designed to close that gap rather than paper over it for two weeks and disappear.
