Women's Table-Banking Group Launches With 18 Founding Members
A new savings group began meeting weekly, with Camp Nuo providing basic facilitation support in its early months.
The Details
Eighteen women from Mwiki formed a new table-banking savings group, meeting weekly with Camp Nuo volunteers providing basic facilitation and bookkeeping guidance through its first months of operation.
The group set its own contribution rules and elected its own leadership from the outset, with Camp Nuo's role limited to organisational support rather than running the group directly — a structure organisers now consider the template for any future savings group they help start.
By March 2026, this founding group of 18 had grown to more than 50 active members, tracked in the dispatch archive as one of Camp Nuo's clearest examples of a program that became self-sustaining.
"Confidence with a keyboard opened doors these young people didn't know existed." — A volunteer facilitator, Camp Nuo
Why It Matters
Basic digital and financial literacy is increasingly a precondition for entry-level work and safe participation in Kenya's mobile-money economy. Without structured, low-cost training, that gap tends to fall hardest on young people and small traders who cannot afford private computer courses.
