Camp Nuo CBOMwiki · Kasarani · Nairobi

Fifteen youth and small traders enrolled in our first basic computer and mobile-money course of the year.

The Details

Camp Nuo's first digital literacy cohort of 2025 began with 15 enrolled learners, mostly young jobseekers and small traders looking to build basic computer confidence and safer mobile-money habits ahead of applying for work or formalising a small business.

The course runs on donated laptop time at the community hall, two evenings a week, with volunteer facilitators covering material adapted from earlier feedback — this cohort placed more emphasis on mobile-money fraud awareness after several learners reported having been targeted by scams.

This pilot cohort's success directly shaped the decision to run a second, larger cohort the following year, which went on to graduate 18 learners in August 2026.

Why It Matters

Basic digital and financial literacy is increasingly a precondition for entry-level work and safe participation in Kenya's mobile-money economy. Without structured, low-cost training, that gap tends to fall hardest on young people and small traders who cannot afford private computer courses.
