Camp Nuo CBOMwiki · Kasarani · Nairobi

Community health volunteers led a door-to-door hygiene campaign in an area with limited water access.

The Details

In an area of lower Mwiki with limited piped water access, community health volunteers and Camp Nuo members ran a door-to-door hygiene campaign, demonstrating safe water storage and handwashing practices at each household visited.

Water-treatment tablets were distributed to households that requested them, alongside a short explanation of correct dosing — a detail volunteers say matters as much as the tablets themselves, since incorrect use undermines their effectiveness.

The campaign covered roughly 60 households over two days and is now used as a template for similar campaigns in other underserved pockets of Mwiki identified through the community health volunteer network.

Why It Matters

Preventable illness and maternal health complications are frequently linked, in this community, to gaps in accessible information rather than a lack of will to seek care. Outreach delivered in familiar language, at a familiar venue, by community health volunteers residents already trust, closes that information gap far more effectively than a clinic poster.
