Camp Nuo CBOMwiki · Kasarani · Nairobi

We worked with the Sub-County social development office to guide families through the bursary application process.

The Details

With secondary school fees due, Camp Nuo volunteers helped 12 families complete and submit bursary applications to the Kasarani Sub-County office, including gathering the required documentation and following up on application status on the families' behalf.

This kind of practical, paperwork-level support is often the biggest barrier for families who qualify for assistance but don't know how to access it — a gap organisers say is at least as significant as the eligibility criteria themselves.

Nine of the twelve applications were approved in full or in part within the term, with the remaining three still pending review at the time of publishing.

"Partnership means the school and Camp Nuo aren't duplicating effort — every child is seen once, properly." — A local school administrator

Why It Matters

Kenyan bursary and school-materials support programs exist, but the paperwork and awareness barrier to reaching them is often higher than the eligibility bar itself. Camp Nuo's role is frequently less about providing materials directly and more about walking a family through a process that was already available to them.
