Term 1 Learning Materials Reach 90 Pupils
Exercise books, pens and basic school supplies were distributed to pupils identified together with local head teachers.
The Details
At the start of the first school term, Camp Nuo distributed exercise books, pens and other basic supplies to 90 pupils across three Mwiki primary schools, identified together with head teachers as needing support ahead of the term's opening week.
Four families were additionally referred to the Kasarani Sub-County bursary desk for secondary school fee assistance, with a volunteer helping them gather the required documentation on the same day rather than leaving them to navigate the process alone.
This distribution now runs at the start of every school term rather than once a year, a change made after head teachers pointed out that need re-emerges term by term, not annually.
"The bursary paperwork was the real barrier, not the eligibility. We just needed someone to walk it with us." — A parent of a bursary applicant
Why It Matters
Kenyan bursary and school-materials support programs exist, but the paperwork and awareness barrier to reaching them is often higher than the eligibility bar itself. Camp Nuo's role is frequently less about providing materials directly and more about walking a family through a process that was already available to them.
